Monday March 22nd. Meadow Lane. Trent women have just beaten Uni 3-1. The 2010 C.R.Y. Nottingham Varsity Series now stands at 6-4 to Trent. The crowd is building. The chants are being sung, and the two teams are warming up for the start of the men’s football. An electric atmosphere and a terrific scenario must have had both sets of players buzzing before kick-off, I know I was feeling the tension all the way up in the stands in what was a vitally important game for both teams.

Under the floodlights of Beeston hockey club was where Men’s Varsity Hockey was to take place after having watched the Women unfortunately succumb to an unfairly heavy defeat in a game that proved to be much scrappier than expected. All eyes fell upon the main event of the evening and a decent crowd had appeared to line the sidelines and the balcony. Everything was to play for as as it stood if Trent won they would be crowned CRY Charity Varsity 2010 Champions with the series standing as it did 7-5!

The precursor to the main event proved to be a much better spectacle for all Uni’s fans, and it was shocking that there were not more. Although not quite as high scoring as the Men’s event, Women’s Rugby Varsity was edge-of-the-seat thrilling rugby. The individual performances coupled with a titanic forward effort dragged Uni over the finish line in poll position against a much bigger Trent team.
